Rust proofing Fourtrak

Forum:

We have just bought our first Fourtrak (8-1993)2.8 TD Independent. Car drives really good (even it has done 100K) and I am just woundering whether I should be concerned about 'surface' rust on the chassis and body.
Has anybody tips / advice for firms to use or is it a job I can do myself? Is there any particular spot which is known for causing problems and in I should tackle first?
I had a look on www.before-and-after.co.uk but that would be a long drive for us out of Essex to get there. Thanks all for your help/advice,

rust proofing

only a demon buys a lemon!

wack a load of waxoil treatment underneath !

main problem area i found was the front of the rear wheel arch and underneath the plastic trims (absolute mud traps!) also around the rear body mont bushes right at the back (rear crossmember) is usually worse on nearside i believe! (mine is a 1990 f75 and was totally rotten in those areas!)

I'd agree with that assesment

I'd agree with that assesment, + in front of the front wheel arches. I don't know if the indipendents have the same troble, but the F75's rot from the inside out there due to a nice little shelf hiding away collecting all the wet and dirt.
Don't worry about the chassis, there so thick you'd need to leave it standing in the sea for a year or so befor anything went soft.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
