F20 taft handbrake

Forum:

Hi! I am restoring a 1979 F20 fitted with an Eagle RV body.
It is fitted with a foot operated parking brake.
Can anyone tell me if this was standard on this model? The reason I ask is because I need a new handbrake cable which should not be too much of a problem unless this is a mod. Cheers, Rad.

They are fitted with a conventional handbrake which operates a transmission brake.

The transmission brake is similar to a conventional rear brake drum which is located on the rear output shaft where it exits the transfer case.

Thanks for that info! I will

Thanks for that info! I will have to find a cable of the correct
length to fit my foot operated parking brake, which I now know thanks to you is a modification. Cheers, Rad.

Dead easy to do, get a length

Dead easy to do, get a length of Bowden cable and brass ferrules, fit the brass ferrule by drilling a hole in the centre the exact size of the cable diameter, then taper the hole OR drill a larger hole halfway through, no more.

Fit the cable through the smaller hole and when it reaches the larger hole you flare it, fill with solder flux and heat with a blowtorch, when it is hot enough dip the solder into the flux and fill the hole, this will take some load if done correctly.

Insert into your sleeve and repeat with the other end.
