problem with losing power

Forum:

Hi got a terios. Problem driving me crazy. When driving on mway or dual carcarriageway at a constant speed car loses power and when you put foot on accelerator nothing happens. Engine doesn't cut out just nothing from throttle.pull onto hard shoulder n eventually it gets going again. Fuel filter been replaced n still doing it.
Never cuts out on normal roads when you are changing gear etc regularly.

yone have any ideas on this one.

Have you tried an ECU reset

Have you tried an ECU reset to see if it happens again? To do this pull the power from the battery and leave off for a couple hours and then re connect. If it's okay and then the problem returns then check for any ECU error codes with a reader in the OBD-II socket. I take it you haven't got an Engine light showing on the dash? If so you have a problem somewhere. I take it the obvious, like car is regularly serviced as per the service schedule? Checked and replaced spark plugs and air filter etc...? Engine not overheating and fan is not engaging?

This might sound silly, but

This might sound silly, but it couldn't be something stupid like a blocked fuel filler cap, could it? If it's not letting air in then it could create a vacuum in the tank and maybe restrict the fuel flow. I had it happen years ago, but can't remember if it was on a car or a motorbike (old age creeping up on me)! Maybe worth a look.

Weary

TPS

Might also be worth checking the throttle position sensor. Since it sits on the intake manifold, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it is getting hot and malfunctioning on longer journeys. If it is making contact because of a fault, in the idle position, the engine will refuse to rev - which also means checking the wiring to the TPS for melted/damaged insulation.
