Terios Misfire

Forum:

Hi Folks,

I am new to this forum but seems there is wealth of knowledge here. I'm hoping someone could help.

Bought a P/X to clear 02 Terios with the K3-VE lump. It was sold with a misfire and I fancied a challenge (how many times have you heard that!!!).

I set about checking all the usual electrical items such as plugs, coils, injectors etc. Long story short, it has next to no compression in cylinder 2. The others are reading about 175 psi. Having poured oil directly into the cylinder and repeating the test, still no change! I used a borescope to have a look inside the cylinder and apart from things looking a bit mucky, all seems ok!

With the engine rotated so that the valves are closed shut, I secured a latex glove to the exhaust, pressurised the cylinder (with a compressor) and out popped the glove. Conclusion: poor sealing/damaged exhaust valve.

I've removed the rocker cover and checked there is valve clearance. Is this going to be a valve replacement job or is there any point in trying to reduce the valve stem length at all?

Many thanks in advance for any help anyone could give me.

Ben.
