Hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum and I hope I can maybe get some help with my little charade. And I will try and help others as best I can too.

I recently picked up a 1991 1.3 Charade G100 CX and I absolutely love it! Everything works great apart from...

The rev counter. When I bought the car the rev counter wouldnt move from 0rpm (but bounced a little when you turned the key off) on the way home from picking it up the rev counter sprung into life! For all of five minutes... And failed as I was at 4,000rpm pulling onto a motorway. This caused the needle to fall the wrong way and is now sat past 9,000rpm.

The strangest part is if I rev the engine to approx 4,500rpm+ the rev counter starts moving backwards towards around 7,000 then drops again.

Any advise on what it could be? Is it a common issue?
