This is my first time on here dont know if any one can help.

I love my Sirion 2008 1 litre and had it since new with 71000 miles on the clock, I have always had it serviced regularly.
Yesterday there seemed to be problems with the exhaust been noisy (sounding like a tractor) so I brought it to a local mechanic (not a main dealer).
He informed me that the exhaust was gone but that there was a lot of noise coming from the front of the car too. I raised the bonnet and he told me the engine had a rattle and is gone.

He told me he thought it would be thousands to repair. I am currently in Ireland and will not back in the UK for a few months now. There is no main dealer very near me at the moment.

Are engines prone to going at this age? and would any one no the estimated cost of doing this work or in these situations is it worth doing the work??

I would really appreciate any comments or opinions.
