L251 Charade 1.0 into L201s Mira - Pump primes but no fuel/spark

Forum:

Hello

I am the proud owner of a 1992 L201s Mira that had an extremely tired and oily EF-EL, so I decided to replace it with an EJ-DE out of an L251

I swapped the L251 inlet and rocker cover for sirion ones as they were too tall to clear the bonnet, the TPS, MAP sensor and IAC valve all looked identical so the sirion ones are being used, The IAT sensor was different so I fitted the L251 sensor to the air filter housing. The 2 earths are fitted to the rocker cover.

At the ecu the little plug has 3 wires connected, battery, ignition and fuel pump relay, when I turn the ignition on the FP relay clicks and the pump primes and then shuts off but the car does not start, on other cars I've noticed that if you crank the motor over and the engine doesn't fire it usually sets the pump off again but it doesn't on my car.

So far I've tried putting a little bit of petrol down the inletand it still won't fire, so I'm 100% certain I'm not getting spark and 98% certain I'm not getting injection pulse

So would anyone like to attempt to help me diagnose the problem? Oh yea I've tried an L251, sirion m100 with immobiliser, sirion m100 without immobiliser and cuore L700 without immobiliser ecus and no difference (I work at a daihatsu wreckers lol)

Regards,
Rob

Would it be correct for me to say the cam sensor is the only sensor that will stop the car from starting? The map sensor will stall the car if its unplugged while its running but the car should still start and run like a pig?

I don't have a workshop manual for the L251 and I'm not sure how similar the L700 or M100/200.. Does anyone have a scan of the L251 engine/electrical troubleshooting section of the manual?

At work M100/200 sirion engine wiring harnesses are a pretty commonly sold item, not sure what part of them fails though, and I'm using a L251 harness.. Cam sensors are pretty popular too

The immobiliser only works on the fuel pump right?

Well thanks for the flood of

Well thanks for the flood of responses trying to help me but I've got the car running sweet now, the injectors and coilpacks have a 12v power feed in the LH cowl connector (rhd vehicle) with power connected it would fire up and run for 2 seconds, swap the L251 immobiliser ecu for a M100 non immobiliser ecu and it screamed into life but wouldn't rev over 3-4000rpm and used a whole tank of fuel in less than 100km, drilled and tapped the fuel rail for a fuel pressure regulator off a feroza and power and fuel economy were greatly improved.. Swapped the L251 injectors for M100 ones and now I can hit the rev limiter in every gear and my fuel gauge hasn't moved for nearly a week

The only thing left is it blows bluey/black smoke on hard acceleration when cold.. Bear in mind this is an exchange engine I saved from scrap metal at work Smile

Oh yea, I had a gutted L251 exhaust manifold but it didn't clear the cross member, you need a sirion or cuore manifold to do the conversion but I didn't have time to gut one again lol.. All I need to do now is fit a heatshield (l251 one is held on with fencing wire at the moment) and fix my exhaust leaks

Couldn't be happier with the conversion and I wasn't going to share any of the info since it is so hard to find but I was too proud not too lol

Cheers,
Rob
