SIRION SRS/AIRBAG LIGHT

Forum:

Hi, my old 1998 Daihatsu Sirion has failed its M.O.T due to the airbag light staying on after the car has started. However, if I then turn the ignition off, then turn the ignition on and off 3 or 4 times without starting the engine then on the fifth time start the engine again both airbag lights go out.
If the car is then switched off and left approx 10 -15 mins the airbag light will stay on again. It seems to be a common fault with Sirion's, does anybody know of a SRS/airbag scanner that will work on Daihatsu's or has anyone had and cured this problem ???

If the light is on for a reason then I would say its on because you have a fault with the airbag system. You need to plug in a OBD-II scanner to check what error codes it brings back. Have a look on eBay as there are plenty to choose from, and even Bluetooth ones which can be used with computer software or a mobile phone app. I wouldn't be comfortable knowing that if I had a crash the airbag system wouldn't deploy or even deploy at an un-opportune moment. Have read somewhere that airbag system have a life span of 10 years, so maybe a sign yours needs replacing.

Re airbag light

Have since managed to find a way to read airbag fault codes.
It is showing the following codes (through the flash system):
11- This Relates to Supply voltage fault (low/high) or Side airbag or airbag circuit fault-RH. (short)
15- This Relates to SRS control module supply voltage fault.
16- This Relates to Airbag warning light or circuit fault.
21- This Relates to Driver's airbag or airbag circuit fault. (open)
31- This Relates to Side airbag control module fault (RH) or wiring fault on the passengers airbag. (open)
41- This Relates to Airbag or airbag circuit fault (Terios) or Driver's seat belt pretensioner / circuit fault.
51- This Relates to Passenger's seat belt pretensioner or pretensioner circuit fault. (open)

(Gather code info from following source:

Any suggestions other than scrap it??
