Cuore L710 Oil Loss

Forum:

Hello,

I am posting on behalf of the miss's who loves her little cuore and desperately wants to get on with making it similar to the mighty car mods versions Lol
However we currently face a bit of problem with the engine and oil loss

It's not so much that the engine is burning causing blue clouds of smoke but it's more spitting the oil out the back and onto the ground. Revving the engine hard at idle causes alot of smoke much to the amusement of friends.

After skulking around this forum for a little bit of time I've come to the understanding that these engines have a habit of burning oil from bad piston rings and that some on here recommend engine flushing. We have tried an STP engine flush with new oil which apparently has made it a little better but we're not sure if it really has or it's just in our minds. We also found the throttle body to be quite oily, no doubt from the breather pipe

Would it be worth trying an engine flush again? Or are people pretty sure they don't make much of a difference? Is there any guides to replacing the piston rings? I've recently done the headgasket, belts etc on my MG VVC so not unused to using a ratchet but would prefer some guidance as I don't know these engines well.

Any help would be appreciated as we would like to keep this car on the road but with its mot in September and oil coming out the back it's not looking likely

Are you sure that's not just soot mixed with a bit of condensation in the exhaust? Mine used to do that, and so does my 660cc Mira Classic. I've heard that these engines sometimes burn a bit of oil, but mine was pretty good. Perhaps you could stick the oil breather pipe in a seperate little box with some gauze in it to catch any oil mist, rather than straight into the air filter? Might be worth a try.
