Cuore running a bit off

My 2001 Cuore isnt feeling quite right. I havent had it long, previous owners did about 1k a year and now it is doing 250+ miles a week so possibly not used to it. Only on 48k now.

I find the car hesitates, always between 2000 and 2500 rpm,lighter the throttle opening the worse it is.
I also noticed a sort of hissing noise from around the inlet manifold area that is most noticeable when it is idling and also when you change gear and the revs drop. The warm idle speed feels a bit low, car seems to shake more than I expect although it smoothes out if you feather the throttle - maybe 800 rpm.

Another niggle is that when the car is cold the cambelt seems to squeak both when you apply the power and when you come off it but it goes away after a few miles. The belt does sound a bit squealy in general though, similar to a Charade I had which needed a tweak after a belt change - my Cuore just had the cambelt changed too although weather was colder when it was done. Would a tight belt be related at all? It also had the tensioner done too.

A Daihatsu mechanic told me that the Cuore can have a vocal inlet manifold anyway, is that the consensus? I have never noticed it on other 1.0 Daihatsus I have owned so if it is normal it must be specific to this application rather than other 1.0 models?

Hiss sounds like a leak coming from one of the pipes?

As Bob has mentioned a Diag machine plugged into the ODB-II port might show up a problem or 2. Usually the ECU light/Engine management light would be on constantly on the dashboard (Picture of an engine) to show a problem has been detected by the ECU. I take it this light does come on and goes off when you start up the car? Hasn't been known for the bulb to magically disconnect itself before now Sad as you know will be picked up on a MOT these days and few people just do this to get around the issue.
Other things to check are spark plugs have been replaced as per service intervals,, I take it the plugs look good? Check condition of the coils and connections. Not sure if the EJ-DE engine has the MAP sensor instead of a MAF for airflow? Check condition of the air filter just in case.
