1997 Feroza SX 1.6 (F300/F310) Fuel Problems ...Need Help (Greece) almost 300,000 miles

Forum:

Hello, Ive got bit of a problem with my feroza and the mechanics at Diahatsu cant find the solution. Im burning way to much fuel, with apporx. 12 liters of gas I would get about 140-160 kilometers in the city driving conservatevly, changing gears 3.500 rpms max......now i get about 80 to 100km if im lucky. The engine has had work done to it in the past 6 months:
new piston rings, gaskets and flanges , valve cleaning
new manifold flange
clean injectors and new rings
new belts
new spark plug leads
new spark plugs
new water senor
and theres abit more..

Problem, I smell unburnt fuel from exhaust mostly and also from the engine bay. When I let the car warm up in the morning for a couple of minutes, you can smell the unburnt fuel quiet easily, lately ive also been getting white smoke when idle when the car is warm at normal temp.

Ive got 3 ideas that I want to check:
Damaged fuel line
fuel filter
and last but not least.. changing the airflow sensor
The first two should not be a problem, but the a/f sensor cost 650 euros from diahatsu and its a straight order from Japan. Before i spend any more money, has anyone run into this problem>Unknw

I do hope someone can help
Take care everyone and I hope this doesnt happen to anyone elses.

On another note, up until now, the Feroza has been amazing, Great suv Smile

Unburnt fuel.

I'm assuming that your feroza has fuel injection like the UK models.

Surely one area to check would be the lamda sensor? When the one on my Peugeot 405 went , the fuel consumption rose hugely . Driving a distance of 200 miles I used £120 worth of fuel , so thats about 2 miles (3km) a litre , I nearly died of CO poisoning. I think the Feroza uses a single wire sensor. Don't for goodness sake buy one from Daihatsu for another E100's, they are available from places like : http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_LB1352.html for £35.00.

Obviously if the fuel ines are leaking thats a seperate problem try looking around the right hand rear wheel area , thats where the pump and all the pipes run and get covered in mud, so the first place to look for a leak I would think.

Scrapyards in Britain are full of Ferozas (Sportrak in UK/GB) so please don't go spending E650 on parts from Daihatsu, you could have a holiday in the UK and visit breakers yards for that kind of money.!

Ebay.co.uk has loads of ferozas breaking, some will post to europe. Best of Luck.
