Leaking transfer box

Forum:

Hi, I have an f78 fourtrak with a leaking transfer box. I'm in the middle of trying to change the output seal.
I have followed previous threads and have drained the oil, undone and supported the prop. I now have large yoke nut in front of me but can't tell if the lock- tab nut has to be tapped round anti clockwise ie undone or prized off with a chisel. I've tried both and neither seems to do the trick.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

lock tab nut.

So is it a lock tab or a nut? Most big nuts like that will have a locking tab that you bend over out of the way , then you undo the big nut with a big spanner, which will be very tight. If it was easy to undo they could have used a small nut........F300 transfer out put shaft nut 101 ft/lb TIGHT.

NUT

yeah, great diagram , thats it , just replace the phrase " Never reuse the lock nut" with the words " Always reuse the lock nut" Because the chances of getting one from Daihatsu for less than £50.00 and a seven year wait is zero . Just tighten it up real tight. And peen it into the little groove.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

leaking transfer box

Hi, thanks very much for the comments and diagram.
I managed to figure it out myself ( it wasn't a lock tab just the end of the spline - doh! )
My transfer box is now leak free and full of new oil
Happy days!
