Voltage query on four wheel drive

Forum:

Am in the process of rebuilding an E reg F50 Fourtrak - and am having a problem getting a four wheeldrive - the dear old wagon is on stands at the moment .The mechanical side seems ok but am not getting the voltages that the ' good book ' advises .

Any suggestions what I should be looking for.

If your not getting charge, or much voltage in yours, read my reply in the Fourtrak (electrical) Fault thread. Its probably an alternator brush problem.

Thanks for reply [ bundyrumandcoke]-alternator is O/K what I wanted to know was the voltage going to 4 w/d switch to light the bulb-is there a solinoid in that circuit if its yes where is it-also where do you get the vacuum from

E.T.HICKS

4WD

The vacum comes off the back of the alternator.

It goes under the exhaust manifold (steeltube)then right at the back of the engine block where she meets the transmission it turns a sharp 90 and goes into a rubber hose. If your 4wd is not working, or the light is not comming on I would check the vacum hose for bends, leaks and connection.

If you want I can mail a picture from the workshop manual just drop me a mail (I had the same problem that the light would not come on, the vacu hose was bend)

Electrics fourwheel drive

I have been holding the spanners for fourtrak54 - the problem is with we think possibly the '4H ' switch .The switch appears to have 4 ingoing wires to a connector but 5 leaving the connector to the switch. The switch seems to only move across to wires The rear wheels work fine in low in both forward and reverse but nothing appears to happen at the front end which we kinda hoped would work on the dear vehicle. -What does the switch actually do or go to?
2 indicator lamps within the switch have blown to.
