New Engine required

Forum:

Hi all.
Three months ago I purchased a Sportrack from a dealer in the new forest. I was so happy with it Smile until ......... lately the oil light kept coming on, when the revs were low and then it would stall. Although I kept topping it up, a few days later it, it would start happening again.
Last week it stalled everytime I stopped at a crossing or give way ......... I took it to the garage and they have said I need a new engine
I am now so cross to think that the original garage probably knowingly sold me this car with an engine that was about to give up. I now recall the salesman saying at least twice "it hasn't got any oil leaks" .... no but it drank it like no-one's business, because the engine was shot away
Any how ...... does anyone know where I can get a new engine from :help:?

How many miles has the engine done?

Get someone else to have a lo

Get someone else to have a look at it. If properly maintained, these things should go for about 200,000 miles. Mine has 126,000 on it and compression test results are factory spec.

They are saying that it has a lack of compression, cracked piston's and burning oil.
As you can see from my name I'm a woman .... and I hate to add, one who knows nothing about cars and therefore at the mercy of garage mechanics.
Do you think I'd be better off taking it to a Daihatsu garage to see if they can fix it?

It looks as though they are h

It looks as though they are hedging their bets. If it had a cracked piston, it would certainly be burning oil and have low compression - combined with clouds of thick smoke pouring out of the exhaust while the engine is running. The spark plugs on the affected cylinder should also be covered with thick black sludgy deposits. The dealer I spoke to reckons they hardly ever sell spares other than normal wear and tear parts for these vehicles. I would certainly be asking a Diahatsu dealer to do a compression check and PCV system test on the car - which should not cost you an arm and a leg. Then compare notes with what you have been told. If the engine PCV system is dodgy (which can be as simple as a collapsed hose) the engine will consume oil, run roughly and may stall at idle. The cost of fixing a problem like this would be about 1% of replacing the engine.....
