Hi New user here Need some help is it normal for a 1997 sport track to sound like its got a hole in the exhaust when reaching between 2.5k and 3k revs, full mot supplied with car and no hole in exhaust - any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :help
Check the brackets
I get the same on my 4trak, rattling at a certain rev range.
It's due to one of the brackets no longer welded to the exhaust. At a guess, there's enough of a gap for it not to connect (rattle) unless it hits a certain frequency.
One day I might even get it mended...

rattlin exhaust
I had a problem with my '96 sportrak's exhaust rattlin at some rev ranges. even when the revs dropped changin gear, the rattle would rear its head.
with the engine off i could hit the cat with the underside of my fist and i would hear a similar noise. "must be the cat," i thought.
replaced cat and fired up the engine - - rattle ratlle
as it turns out theres a pipe within the downpipe. just replaced it the day infact, and am one happy chappy now. no rattle and one seriously smoooth soundin sportrak!
