fault code p0171

i have a 2003 cuore el and i have had diagnosed an engine management fault p0171 but my mechanic does not know what it is ? can anyone help ?

Having a look at the diag code list, P0171 is 'Fuel trim system too lean'. The causes are Air Intake hose loose, fuel line pressure, injector blockage, open wire, or shortage on oxygen sensor, oxygen sensor, manifold absolute sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, gas leakage on the exhaust system, purge vsv or evap, engine ecu.
