Brake binding

Hi all, Scratch one-s headHelp
I recently had a problem with the front (drivers side) brake binding (on my sporty). I thought it was my brake pads that had worn down. I discoverd they had, but also there was what looked like grease on the disc. I thought it was the inner seal on the hub that had gone so I replaced that and the brakes. Now after a good few miles later I have found that there is grease leaking out again and the brake is binding. Is it the hub seal or is there another seal that I need to change?
I would really value some advice on this? Has anyone experienced this before and waht did you do?

Sounds like you have two poss

Sounds like you have two possibly related issues here. First the binding brakes. I'd say you have a problem with the caliper. Either the piston or the auto adjustment are siezed. This would be making the pads drag on the disk, transferring heat into the hub, heating the grease, and possibly allowing it to escape past a seal, where normally it wouldnt happen.

Brakes binding

Hi there,
Thanks for the help. What should I do to fix it? Is it just a cleanup or replacement. This Sporty that I have, stood for a few years in storage. It has only done 20000miles and it's N reg.

Oull the affected side calipe

Oull the affected side caliper off the disk. See if the piston easily retracts into the caliper (a G clamp is good for this). If not, them connect back to the brake line and pump the brakes to force the piston out. Then clean piston and caliper bore. Replace the O rings. Then look for 2 sliding bolts/shafts (probably covered with small rubber boots) that go from one half of the caliper to the other. These must be fairly free to allow the caliper to self adjust. Try to pull the two halfs of the caliper apart. Clean up these two shafts and give them a small amount of rubber grease. Make sure the rubber boots are in good condition. Hopefully, this will cure ur woes.

Brakes Binding

Thank you so much for the tip. I have checked the brake caliper and moved the piston back. Moved back no problem. I checked the guides and cleaned them a little and this time bled the brakes real good. This seems to have done the trick. I didn't take the piston out and clean it because I don't have the O rings to replace the old. Where would I get O rings? I thought it would be good thing anyway to take them out later and give them a good clean.
