Advice needed after failed MOT

Forum:

Well, I guess it had to happen eventually. Snapped leaf spring, blown Exhaust and 'O2 sensor' needs fixing!
But what is an O2 Sensor? I know its something to do with emmissions but why is the garage wanting to charge £150 + labour for it?
I don't know, but isn't £150+VAT and labour a bit expensive for a rear leaf spring.
and isn't £155+VAT and Labour a bit pricy for an Exhaust
Total Cost £1000 Yikes! There must be better deals out there.
Does any body know an honest garage in the south london area? Thanks

I think the O2 sensor is an O

I think the O2 sensor is an Oxygen Sensor for the engine. I wold guess it has something to do with the emission control for your car. Not sure about the cost but it may be worth asking another dealer just to see what they say.

The same goes for all the parts. Have a look on the places listed ont he site to see how they compare to what you have been quoted.

what

o2 sensoe is probably the Lambda sensor, this is the one on the exhaust downpipe. Labour to fit should be less than 1 hours, unscrew the old one, screw in the new with a special sealant.

Leaf springs, shop about they are not that bad

Blown exhaust, again what part is blowing cos they cant be that expensive.

Cost less than £500.00 the lot i would think.

DESTROYER OF LANDROVERS.

Co2/lamda sensor is the same

Co2/lamda sensor is the same thing.
What it basically does is monitor your fuel-air ratio through your burnt emissions and lets the ecu know if it needs to adjust fueling etc.
They are easily replaced, they just screw in like a sparkplug! There are variants but providing you know the amount of wires which come out of it they are fully universal and can be picked up at your local parts store.1 wire jobs are about £30 going up to £60/£70 for 5 wire versions.

Check out Milners for the leaf spring and exhaust parts as they are normally one of the cheapest for those sort of parts.

Genuin Daihatsu exahsts are v

Genuin Daihatsu exahsts are very expencive. Non genuin Daihatsu exhasts are prity rare. The last time I tryed to trake one down the cheapest I could find (for an old petrol, non injection, no cat) was £150 for the front pipe, and £300 for the back pipe & silencer box. I made my own up from a new non genuin landrover exhast. It cost me £45 for the whole system from millners, & about 3hrs cuting and welding.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Just replaced mine from local auto supplies the long back section (which is it nearly all) on my lwb rocky was less than £30 also inquired about stainless and was quoted around than £300 for the whole system from a place in London if anybody needs the company will look it out for them
