injector pump help !!

Forum:

My 2.8td f-reg fourtrak is leaking diesel from the top of injector pump where the throttle arm fastens to the pump. Been told it needs top of injector pump taking apart and it will cost a fortune as its a specialised job. Is there an easy way round this or will I have to pay someone a huge amount of money to get this sorted UnknwHelp

Hmmm..had the same problem myself..fuel leaking from top of pump exactly as you describe....David (Bundyrumandcoke)a regular contributor to these forums gave the advice that Cjvc suggests..anyways I decided that I would get me another pump which I did for £50. I was gearing up to fitting the new pump when lo and behold the leaking stopped...could not believe it...it had been leaking really badly for months and suddenly it stops...its been fine for the last 2 months ..no sign of a leak at all...aint that the weirdest thing !!!

So I still have the secondhand pump sitting in the garage Smile

Injector pump sorted- i hope

Well I finally plucked up the courage to strip the pump (after I had a go on an old 1 ) and wot a faff on ! pleased bro was there cos I needed the extra hands. getting the spring off the pump was the worst bit. Hopefully its ok now, would like to say ta very much to Mike and Cjvc, also to bundyrumandcoke for one of his old postings, It wasnt easy but loads better than the 300 quid I'd been quoted. !

Hi Tiff

Your more than welcome m8

What turned out to be your problem and could you take us through the pitfalls of doing the job..i.e. what u had to remove to get to allen bolts etc...and why was the spring so hard to get to Unknw

Just in case mine starts leaking again.

Thanks m8

leaky injector pump repair

just thought i'd let you all know how i got on with the injector pump, if you're interested. 1st removed plate that holds throttle cable on2 the pump. then loosened the 4 bolts, back left stud very awkward, hard to reach to turn it, made slightly easier by removing return feed pipe from pump. eased the top up just enough to get fingers in, unclipped the spring making sure the little rod that the spring is attached to doesnt fall in the pump. took top completely off, took spring off throttle shaft, marked position of shaft on inside of pump top. loosened nut that holds throttle arm on2 shaft. use thin screwdriver to push shaft through to help hold springs in place. removed the shaft, replaced o ring. when replacing shaft make sure its lined up on the splines or it will affect throttle. it seems to be ok, no leaks so far. Hope this is of some help to any1 contemplating doing this job.
