Sportrak EXLi

Forum:

I recently acquired a Sportrak & on the way home the electric windows stopped working - guess it's the fuse, but I can't find it and the local dealer hasn't got much idea either. All fuses under the steering wheel are labelled & no electric windows there! Any suggestions?

fusable links.

Check the two in-line fusable links alongside the main battery.

Have checked all fuses now in

Have checked all fuses now including in-line ones by battery - all seem ok. I suppose the next thing is to check the motor - does anyone know if it is a single motor that controls both driver & passenger windows or are there 2 motors?

motors

Hi Rachel
There has to be seperate motors for the windows but if the swiches are in the centre consol it maybe worth checking the wireing there in case of any lose or broken ones dont know if this will help Paul M

Thanks for the suggestion Pau

Thanks for the suggestion Paul - I have window switches on the doors (2 on drivers & 1 on pax door) None of the switches work apart from when I took some fuses out and put them back in again there was a very faint whining noise coming from the drivers door switch when I tried it! This one's really got me! Rachel

test.

NB..There should be 3 switches on sporty drivers door arm rest. 1st is an isolator to turn on/off the passengers window switch. 2nd is 'auto' switch for drivers window. 3rd is switch to operate passengers window.
One on passenger door the one switch is for the electric window. Note that it can be isolated on drivers door.

So both windows are electrified from the drivers door. This seems to indicate your problem lies between the fuse and the drivers door switches. Its unlikely both motors have failed - unless you bought them as broken. A 'grunting motor' sounds like insufficient power is being supplied and the supply cable might be corroded or gone 'thin.'
I suggest you test for voltage supply at the fuse [I assume you have a 12v test kit] and test at the drivers door switch. If no voltage then the fault lies in the supply cable.
If voltage at the switch is OK then test the switches.
Next try a temporary [+] power cable direct to the motor.
Next fit a temporary earth [-}wire to the motor.
If the motors run then follow the motor cable[s] to the vehicle chasis and check/clean/refit the earth connection.
