2.8TDX - Oil leaking

Forum:

Hello all,

new member here and looking for some help please.

My fourtrak has had a leak for some time now on the right hand side of the engine bay.

This morning after a long motorway drive yesterday, there was oil on the drive.... A brief look under the bonnet and there is oil in the pipework leading from turbo to the intercooler and quite a bit around on the inside of the engine bay on that side (some of which is from the leak previosuly)

Anyone got any smart ideas? Am i looking at replacing the oil seals in the turbo? Is it oil escaping the rocker cover via the pipe on front right? How difficult if it to dismantle and sort out turbo? Where can i get a replacement bearing/seal kit from? Does the fourtrak have a garret turbo? What are the smaller pipes at the back of the starter motor (i think??)

Any help much appreciated

thanks

dave

Begin by applying degreaser

Begin by applying degreaser to the area and fully remove all the oil, sprinkle talcom powder around the area when it is dry.

Start the engine and let it idle for a couple of minutes, then see where the talc is stained with oil. If it is not stained then run the engine for longer until an area becomes stained, this will identify the area leaking.

Same thing on mine, oil all

Same thing on mine, oil all over the N/S engine bay, all under the turbo & on the driveway. I found oil leaking from the banjo bolt (12mm) on the back, engine block side of the alternator where there looks to be an oil feed for the vacuum pump on the back of the alternator.

I've done it up so we'll see if that fixes it but to be honest there seems to be so much oil that I can't believe that it's the only leak, on mine there is a large copper washer under the banjo & a smaller one on top, no other sealant not sure if that's enough?

Hope this helps, get back to me if not clear enough & I'll try to explain better what I'm talking about.

Have degreased/cleaned up the

Have degreased/cleaned up the area. After quick run out, oil was present again in bottom of engine bay (on flat plate next to chasis.)

Took apart all intercooler flow/return pipes, removed intercooler and emptied out the oil that was in there. Oil present in both upper and lower (which had much more) connecting rubber pipes. Removed as best could, cleaned up all joints and reassembled.

Looking in and cant spot an obvious leak, yet freshly leaked oil is clearly present.

I need to check the piping under the airbox (which couldnt remove as missing the bit for my socket of corret size.

Think maybe leaking from either the join of pipe which runs under airbox to intercooler or from the smaller pipe? which runs above it.

If its the join of the intercooler pipe then where is the oil coming from / how to fix - if the smaller pipe guess just a case of replacing.

Alternatively may be neither of these but i cant see until airbox off - will it be ok once the box is off to run the engine and try to establish where oil coming from?

If i take pics can i embed in post linked from photobucket or similar?

Thanks
