Help. (I feel a bit of a fraud here)
I've got a Daihatsu powered land rover, but have no idea what engine it is. The (not so) Local Diahasu dealer thought it would be a 2.5 or 2.8 (diesel) non turbo, but cannot be sure as they need the VIN from the donor vehicle. How can i tell so i can buy bits for it (glow plugs needed!)
Thanks
PS If it is a 2.5, can i turbo it?
engine
DG is the older engine and is 2.5 ltr
DL is 2.8 ltr - main variation in the DL is the early ones had timing gears while the later ones had a timing belt and pulleys.
I have an old DG motor bored and sleeved to 2.8 with a DL head so some other combinations are possible.
Mine has gears, does the DG h
Mine has gears, does the DG have gears too, or just the early DL
Thanks for the help wombat!
The DG does use timing gears.
The DG does use timing gears. The DL is only a modified DG engine anyway. All the 4trak deisel engins are derived from the DG, with more and more alterations & add ons. Even the last of the F78's with terbo, intercooler and all are just modified DG engins.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
timing gears
Yes the DL and DG are almost the same. The cams are slightly different and not interchangable as they use a different retaining bolt.
