Steering

Forum:

Can anyone advise on a simple method of checking the steering joints etc. of my Sportrak ElXi K reg, pre MOT. I find it tends to ‘drift’ just a tad. Could this be the wide wheels (225/70 R15)

Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Martin

Jack up each front wheel, one

Jack up each front wheel, one at a time, grab the wheel side to side, and give it a bit of a shake, have a mate look under the front while you do this to see if there is any movement in anything. It could be anything from worn kingpin bearings, wheel bearings, worn drag links, steering box, tyre pressures.
I wish mine only drifted a "tad" lol.

I agree with everything that

I agree with everything that Bundy says - and another point to watch is the tracking. Make sure it is spot-on as that can cause drift (not to mention bald tyres).
