I think you would find a distinct lack of space to squeeze the 2.8 lump into m8....and no the gear box for the 1.6 petrol unit is not compatible with the diesel engine. This would be one major modification...too many headaches...why do u want to do this anyway
Its a shame they never made a diesel sporty, it would have been a great car. I love the petrol engine, but sometimes i wish it was diesel (like when i realise the fuel consumption!!)
Thanks for you comments,it was just a question i was asked from a non member, lookin at the size of the engine bay of the sporty and looking at my bay on the fourtrak and the overall size of my truck,i did not think it possible anyway
please ignore the same question in general topics
thanks again
With the curant Sporti gearing your top speed with a deisel would be about 60, as the engine would hit it's rev limiter in 5th about there.
And befor you ask, you can't swap the diffs either, as for some strange reison Daihatsu desided to use banjo diffs on the Sporti, while the 4trak has sensible Sulsbury type affairs.
However, I have been told that there is a deisle version of the Sporti avalible in other contries (called an F200). Might be worth investigationg?
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
engine swap
THAT should read will a deisel engine from a fourtrak fit a sportrak petrol or do you have to change the gearbox as well from the deisel unit

2.8 diesel in a sporti - what a vehicle, christ it would be unstoppable off road.

Sorry, the diesels are totall
Sorry, the diesels are totally unsuitable for a Sportrak without some (very) radical surgery.
Look for an alternative hi-speed diesel unit.
