CHARADE '03 - FRONT L/H BRAKE CALIPER BINDING ON - CANNOT LOCATE ANOTHER

Posted in

Hi everyone, I have a Charade on '03 plate. I've had problems with my front L/H brake calliper binding for a long time. My fella has tried locating one for me, but can't find any at all....he's even been told Daihatsu don't do them any more! He's the manager of an autocentre, so you'd think if anyone could get them, he could. He frees it off and does what he can from time to time, but I need a permanent solution to this problem.

Does anyone know whereabouts I can get one from please? My poor car can't carry on like this for much longer Sad

Thanks for any help you can give

sympathise

Yes I experienced similar here:

Did a similar thing to Wayne with wire brush and then you should get the stuff that Bob says - Mintex cera tec and it will be fine for a while. Almost all the pins were seized on my wifes charade, felt like the car wasn't going to stop in some frightening instances...struggled to get them loose, needed some persuasion with the hammer to just get them out.

But now its awesome, better than the yrv turbo stopping...

I had a 2002 yrv, and had same problem. I ordered 2 new slide pins and a new rubber sleeve for the top pin, from Daihatsu, and it never stuck on again. Do NOT use copper ease grease on the pins either!! I personally used red rubber grease, but I know few on here have found something else.
I can't believe Daihatsu don't do them anymore to be honest.
As a temporary measure I cleaned up both slide pins with wire wool , cleaned and greased and it lasted a few hundred miles beofre it started binding again. Someone here may be able to advise you if the parts you need ARE obsolete or not.

Internet Breakers !!

Google Internet Car Breakers.

And put your request to the breakers that come online.

Maybe taking the Caliper off and giving it a damn good clean would help.

You should still be able to get parts for this car anyway - Or maybe a new seal kit!

Depends how handy this fella of your is.

And the Grease you should use is Mintex Cera Tec.

Happy Hunting.

Don't like the new shape Sirion much.Sorry.

Bigg Red

Give Bigg Red a ring, they will re-manufacture your own pair of calipers for less than Daihatsu would charge you for a single new one.

The Charade isn't listed but they claim to be able to do any caliper from any car.
