Brake Light Failing

Forum:

Hi I am new, I have a fourtrak 2.8. Last night I blew a fuse for my brake lights. I attached my horse box as usual and when I tested the lights it blew a fuse. I then removed the trailer and put a new fuse in and the brake lights came on very dim and blew the fuse. Has anyone got any ideas why the fuse keeps blowing?

Thanks

Vicky

Sounds like you have a problem with the electrics in the socket on the vehicle. Could be full of water or corroded connections inside.

Brake Sensor

Thanks for your help,
but I have checked that with a meter.. Do you know where the brake sensor is as I think this may be the problem?

It's just a self returning swithch, against the breake pedel. It hides well, up behind the dash. You'll need to put your head in the footwell to see it.

It sounds like you've got a partial conection between your breack light suplly, and your earth. As the problem started when you were using the trailer lights, I'd guess the problem is in the 7 pin socket (even though you've looked there already, Jap electrics are awcward at best). If you take out all your break bulbs, then do a ciruit test on the breake light system you should be able to test my theary. If that's not the problem, you wont get a cicuit.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

After checking the self returning switch...

Thanks for that...

I have changed the 7 pin socket but still blowing fuses. Found under the passangers seat where they connect the tow bar electrics. Unpluged and reconnected to the orginal wiring but it still blew the fuse. Going to now check the fuse box and then if that does not work have to re-wire that part of the car.. Any other sugestions...

Funny that as yesterday I went to replace what I thought was a blown bulb in the rear light and found out that the electrical socket connectors had corroded into oblivion! Took about an hour to sort.
