YRV Turbo owners - How are your cars fairing in the Heat?

Hello all YRV Turbo owners,

How are your cars doing in the heat, especially with the radiator?

Noticed today (Using a Scangauge II for reference) that mine was struggling to keep cool. On the way home tonight noticed that the engine temps were hitting as high as 98 degrees with a low of 91-92 degrees and the radiator fan having to kick in to deal with the temps even when I was driving, all appears well with plenty of water in the radiator. But could do with getting a concensus on how everyone elses car is holding up.

Thanks,

Jon.

heat heat intercooler temp aswell

mines the same 98 degrees high and 91 degrees normal, in the winter its about 87 degrees. did notice the intercooler temp when stood in traffic got up to 75 degrees Shocked and car was sluggish on low revs water temp ok at 98 degrees still may be time to get a intercooler fan for when sat in traffic. there are universal kits about but is it worth it?????

p.s it don't help the intercooler is sat on top the engine

That's good to know...

Well that puts my mind at rest a bit as it appears to be a feature of the car in summer. I suppose having a hard working 1.3 litre 16 Valve engine doesn't help. I take it you find the scangauge useful too?

I know this is an old ish

I know this is an old ish thread, but just come across it and thought i'd give my 2 pennys worth. I've noticed mine gets very hot, and the fan comes on very regularly (and it's no been hot since I aquired the car) but it does cycle on and off so it's doing its job. I imagine it's a stressed little engine, plus the cooling system has the gearbox to cool too so that adds to the fact the fan runs alot. On the whole, there's alot of heat under that little bonnet, especially compared with my last yrv premium.

Ok you lot - One for all to talk about. EVANS COOLANT !!

I have considered using the above special no water coolant in my Rally.
The stuff reads up really good and makes sense to me in many ways.

But being old time (Mechanically)(Oh ok then - and mentally)(Oh ok then - An age as well) Sad

I wonder if this could be a step too far!

Have a look at Evans Coolant and see what you think.

Although the Sirion seems ok I wonder if this stuff could be an answer the the "Heat" worries we have, and the added protection of no rust in the engine etc.
And it doesn't freeze until minus 40.

Expensive I know - Anyone any thoughts on this? Smiling

Cheers, Bob.

Don't like the new shape Sirion much.Sorry.

Seems to be a YRV Turbo trait

Yeah mine has it's good and bad days. On Friday it was running brilliantly, and on others felt lacking. Can possibly put this down to heat soak during the day on the intercooler perhaps.

Bob any link to that coolant? Thinking about changing mine again on the next service. Also considering another oil type. Can you get 5w-50 oil ? Currently using Fuchs 5w-40 etha based fully-synthetic oil from Opie Oils. Not bad but gets rather dirty and brakes down quick after a while. Sad

fan a lot...

Yes I noticed that the fan does activate a lot more often, but temp gauge not anywhere higher than normal. The car's performance seems to be ok, a little bit more huffy in the low revs, but still pulls like a train. Perhaps I should invest in a scangauge or equivalent. Is it worth it?

Scangauge 2 is a useful tool to have.....

Yes the Scanguage 2 is very useful indeed, I get a better idea on what the car is upto than the analogue dials on the dash. Especially why the fan is kicking in more I get a pretty good idea on normal running temps, as well as other features as knowing my inlet-air temps as well as what state the battery is in when being charged up. For the money a very useful tool indeed. Put it this way I have 2, 1 in the Daihatsu and 1 in the scooby, for the latter it saved me breaking down as I could see that the battery was failling to be charged up which then luckily mean't I could catch the issue with the alternator I was having. Smiling As well as the MPG gauge which show how much petrol you could be saving if you change your driving style Eye-wink

Don't have a fancy Scanguage Jon !!

But the Sirion Rally 4 seems to be doing ok.
Not really noticed anything out of the ordinary to be honest.

But of course I don't hammer my vehicle either.

Cheers, Bob F.

ps I noticed you said YRV Owners but the engines are pretty much the same on most YRVs, except for you fancy turbo guys Smiling

Worth investing in one Bob ;-)

Bob,

The Scangauge 2 is a worthwhile investment. Tony was impressed with it when he saw it in my car on Saturday Eye-wink
