Forum:
I have recently discovered a lot of cracks on my Sportrak exhaust manifold. The dealer guy I rang said this has never happened before to anyone he knows .. but I have heard of another one doing this. Does anyone know if it is the heat shield doing this or does anyone know another reason why this could have happened. Someone else said that it must have been dropped.. I am looking at £181. incl VAT for another one.. which is a heck of a lot of dosh.. as noone except dealer can get this part. does anyone know of anyone doing patten parts of this to save a bit o money, Im not keen on a second hand one, Id rather have new.
Please please help... (A very broke Pete)

How's your welding? (Mig, not ark). If the cracks are excessible without taking the manifold off, and your going to have to replace it anyway, why not try reparing it. Cast is finicky stuff to weld, but it can be done. Run the engine first untill manifold is as hot as it'll get. Weld the cracks in short bursts, not heating the meatal any more than nessesary. If you find your taking a long time to finish, run the engine up between welds to keep the heat disitribution on the manifold uniform. Once you've finished run the engine again to even out the heat over the whole manifold. Let it cool naturally, the slower the better. It'll either hold, or crack some more.
Like I said if it's knackered now, you've nothing to lose trying.
I have sucssesfully welded my trialers exhast pipe to the manifold, when the retaining studs split right out the sides of the manifold casting.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Hi Pete,
Try parts and dealers at the top of this page and then try Graham Dewhust they might be able to help.

Cracked Exhaust Manifold
Pete,
Have a look at the link to MRT's website at http://warfs.org , they make extractors for the sportrak/feroza that give the engine more grunt and wont crack like the original manifold. They are also probably cheaper than a new manifold.

Has anyone considered stainless steel systems on here??
go to a set of extractors the
go to a set of extractors the extra power and economy will be worth it,
