Anyone know what a mechanical clicking sound could be, on overrun only at any speed and not engine related appears to be somthing rotating even when rolling out of gear and seems to be related to car speed, poss cv joint ? but does iy in straight line as well ? any idea??

YRV turbo clicking noise on over-run

Hi all still trying to find out what the noise is, when I say clicking its more deep than that more like some thing like a gear catching up sounds rotary, when slowing up so the clicking slows up and stops at around 10 mph, just done brakes all round so nothing there, while wheels were of check wheel bearings and they were all fine, could it be a cv joint? do they show up in straight line ? appears in all gears and out of gear as well but only on over run.
it stops as soon as I touch the throttle and I mean touch it just,
Im starting to thing trans-axle now but dont really want to go that route being an auto box! wonder if anything happens in over run that does not when driving? i,e with foot of throttle.

Any Ideas

PS any one got std air box and intake hose and BOV valve for the YRV turbo. ??

Try the Power Steering/Air Con drive belt!!

Just a thought and worth a try.

As you say "It is rotary"

Have you checked the above belt. Smiling

I'd call it the Fan Belt but of course it doesn't power the Fan Anymore.

Replace the belt. Maybe just adjusting it will do it.

There was another problem with this belt which ticked and sounded like the VVTI Tappets and people on here were going crazy with it.

It was the Belt !!

YRV turbo clicking noise on over-run

Thanks Bob I saw those comments about the belt, I have got one ready as does look like its on last legs, just avoiding it at moment (knuckles) I don,t think its that as is sort of metallic sounding, tried taking the car into nuteral while its making noise and does not change, strange thing is, it is only when you take foot off throttle, when you just touch the pedal it goes away almost like intake or vacaum but its not any of that all new, like playing card in spokes of wheel, then stops as you get to around 10 mph nothing on aceleration perfect. may change belt anyway looks like pain in as.... job.

thanks Tony

Ummmm.. I seem to recall that

Ummmm.. I seem to recall that this car is/was heavily modified by the last owner, I wonder if the turbo timing has been modified for the turbo to spin up quicker at a lower rev range perhaps? Could be the turbo that your hearing (Maybe a different turbo fitted as well?).

I take it that the ECU has ben bypassed in someway? E-Manage/unicip-Q piggy back or some sort of boost controller perhaps.

As stipulated in one of my previous posts would help to know what's been modified on the car....

Make Sure!!

This may be daft.

But make sure you haven't got anything stuck in one of your tyres.

Then go to Calipers/ Discs/ Brake Pads.

Could be a wheel bearing I suppose but they normally drone, but clicking could be the first sign.

Ah well - that's given you a days investigation.Smiling

Let us know if you find anything.

Cheers, Bob F.

From what I have understood

From what I have understood about the car you own from the classifieds Eye-wink it is not standard? If you are getting a clicking sound then is this coming from the front or back? The only sounds I get from mine is the knocking sound from the non-standard adjustable shocks I had fitted to the rear of the car a few months back. You don't have anything similar?

Would be easier if you can list what is on the car at the moment, and try and diagnose from there. Smiling
