Couple Problems

Forum:

Hi Guys n Gals, I've got a couple problems with my Daihatsu, It was stuck in 4WD so I dropped the transfer box of sorted the problem put it all back together but was left over with one thin washer and I can't see where it came from - everything works except the vehicle now jumps out of reverse gear, I don't understand how the fault could have come from me playing with the transfer box.... It's all a bit mystical... DOH

Second problem is that occassionally whilst driving allong the engine will just stop. There deffinately isn't any blockages in the fuel lines... I must have cleared them all out by now, and I've put a new filter on still no joy...

Any help greatly appreciated (before I loose confidence in Daihatsu Smile !

Thanks Guys

Couple Problems

Hi, i dont know about the washer, but i bet the cutting out is either a faulty fuel cut off selenoid or the wiring to it, try a small jump wire from the battery positive direct to the selenoid on the fuel pump, about two foot of thin wire and a couple of crockadile clips should do. only connect to run then disconnect when you stop, this way your battery wont run down,if this cures it look for the fault in your wiring.
Good Luck Phil.

Obviously, the washer is a thrust washer. I got one in the wrong place once, and the box made all sores of noises. When I eventually bothered to check it out, one of the transfer case gears was grinding away at the cae itself. Thrust washers control the lateral movement of the gears, so anythings possible if ones been left out.
As for your second problem, assuming its a diesel, you have answered your own problem, you fitted a new fuel filter, and you havent completely bled the fuel system. And they can be a real PITA to get completely bled. Try the bleeder valve again, on top of the fuel filter and primer pump assembly. Sometimes, I've even had to resort to loosening off the connection between the delivery line and the top of #1 injector to get the system completely bled.
