Brighter Bulbs for any Daihatsu.

Posted in

I have just changed all my bulbs for the latest versions with Xenon Gas in them etc.
All are much brighter (At least 50%)
I know you can get brighter but these are quite good enough for me in my little country village with little night lighting.

Even the new Stop/Tails and especially the Indicator Bulbs are superb.

They look silver but flash Orange.Eye-wink

What a difference and so much safer when driving in the dark, and they are street legal, so no worries there either.Smiling

If you think your lights are a bit dull then this is a good option and they are not very expensive.
I got all my replacement bulbs from

www powerbulbs.com

Good prices and great service and postage is free. They are even doing an offer on their own bulbs for the headlights.Buy one set get one set free.

And you get your sidelights (Worth nearly a tenner) for free as well

hmmmmmm... have you got

hmmmmmm... have you got shares in this company!!!!?

either that, or you are just really pleased with your new bulbs!!

No Shares.

I just knew I should have said that in the Forum.

No - No shares, just (as you say) really happy with the product and the service was super.Eye-wink

Just thought I would pass it along for all Daihatsu Owners to benefit from what I had found if they wish.

Don't like the new shape Sirion much.Sorry.

I always fit Xenon bulbs,

I always fit Xenon bulbs, they make a big difference imo.
Personally I get the cheapest Xenons I can find on ebay. I think I paid £12 all in for 3 pairs of H4 bulbs last time, one set in my Daihatsu, one in a VW and one in a Renno... bargain Eye-wink

Headlamp bulbs

I've uprated my YRV headlights to the highest road legal light output option of the time. First +30%, then +50%, then +90%. and to be honest I haven't seen any real improvement in brightness. I have noticed slightly different light patterns which might be helpful, but I think the original bulbs supplied by Daihatsu are not disgraced by these new bulbs. The eyes have a logorithmic characteristic, resulting in the need to double the power to produce a just noticeable difference in perceived brightness.

In a conversation with the boss of a UK bulb supplier he was pretty evasive when I said I couldn't really see the benefits of these 'brighter' bulbs.

If you want to improve lighting, you should fit relays and thick wire to the bulbs as the Daihatsu wiring looks pretty weedy and thus lossy.

Blue tint bulbs might be advantageous as the dark-adjusted eye is more blue-sensitive, but I've not tried them.

You Getting too Old Tony ???

Ouch. What a grouch today. Sad

In the countryside where there are no lights at all the difference is quite startling Tony.

And you know I would tell you no lies.Eye-wink

But good to hear from you. Long time !!

Headlight blubs

Eh up Bob, telling everyone I’m old and grouchy, although true, is below the belt. I demand Queensberry not Queensferry rules!

I admire your enthusiasm about these new headlights and your perception of a ‘startling difference’

A possible explanation is that your eyes are less logarithmic than mine and thus more sensitive to light intensity changes. Whose eyes are more typical we’ll never know.

However I would be very interested to see a photo of the direct difference between your old bulbs and the new. This could be done by you changing one of your bulbs back to the original and shining them onto a garage door at short range – so that you can clearly see the centre focus point of each bulb.

I do a regular journey at night along lanes, sometimes using the YRV with its +90% bulbs and sometimes the Nissan Note with the bulbs it was born with. They both have headlight adjusters so are both set for the best night vision. I can’t tell the difference or I would favour one car over the other for the journey!

Actually you could be right Tony.

I do have light sensitive eyes Tony.

Maybe that is it. I have to wear Sunglasses pretty much all the time as standard light can be too much for me.

But if you think I am going to take off the front valance, bumpers and all the other stuff before I can even get to the headlights and then I have to take them off as well - Just to change a bulb and do a test - You can forget it !! Smiling

Actually I threw the old bulbs away.

As I say though - You could be right - I do have Light sensitive eyes. But I am not the only one who says they can see the difference.

Maybe your eyes are getting dimmer as you get older and so when you replace the bulbs - It just looks the same to you.Eye-wink

HE HE.

Cheers Tony.. Bob.

Sensitive eyes

Your sensitive eyes must be the answer Bob. Lucky you in dim light, unlucky you in bright light!

Sorry about suggesting you change one of your bulbs to compare them in a photo. I'd forgotten that you'd said it was a hell of a job. On the YRV it takes next to no time.

I've just ordered a pair of the LED sidelights illustrated by Jonathan on the forum, so that other drivers can see the YRV more clearly when it's not dark enough for dips. Hope they are as good as the xenon sidelights you fitted!

Yep they look good don't they.

Maybe I will have a look at them as well.

Next time I have the whole front off. Mid April is the next time the lot comes off.

Work to be done.
