Reviews...
Auto
Express have the Copen on long term test.
Everywhere you go people stop and stare - especially when you
lower the superb Mercedes SLK-style hard-top at traffic lights.
Children smile, women point and men double-take. I'm sure that if
onlookers had Daihatsu flags, they'd wave them. More.
Mirror cars review of the Copen.
It may look like a toy, but the Copen is actually great fun to
drive and capable of keeping pace with much more powerful and expensive
machinery.

Telegraph's review of the Copen.
One still hears people saying all modern cars look the same. In
2003, the very idea is patently absurd but, should you meet anybody
who thinks that way, show them the Daihatsu Copen. This really is
something different in looks, character and, well, just about everything.

BBC's
Top Gear programme reviews the Copen, but I think they're used to
driving Ferraris!
Based on a shortened Cuore chassis, the Copen proved such a motorshow
crowd pleaser that Daihatsu promptly changed their minds about selling
it outside Japan.

Autozine's
Kei Car reviews page including a Copen review.
Daihatsu Copen was first appeared as a concept car (in 1999 Tokyo
motor show). After receiving good reception it got green light and
spent 3 years for development.

The
Guardian reviews the Copen.
Beneath its naive appearance, however, the Copen does harbour one
highly sophisticated, technical trick involving no giant keys and,
indeed, no clockwork at all, enabling you to convert the car from
hard-top to open-top in a single push of a button.

NewCarNet's
first impressions.
The Copen was first displayed as a concept at the 1999 Tokyo Motor
Show. It appeared again in 2001 and finally went on sale in Japan
in spring 2002 virtually unchanged in appearance from the original
car. Since then, the Copen has developed an enthusiastic cult following
with long waiting lists.

NewCarNet's
Copen roadtest.
Although the Copen is not overly fast, it is exceedingly quick,
and a few miles through the twists and turns of average country
lanes will, er…drive home this fact to anyone willing to put
faith in the agile chassis.

What
Car Magazines roadtest.
In a car this light, it ensures a spirited performance. The engine
is happy to rev to a dizzy 8500rpm and its rasping exhaust note
is pleasing.
